In the centre of this region, a town with extensive industry, a centre for culture and arts as well as the seat of the University of J.E.Purkyn�. The town has a museum displaying many rare antiques. The district of St�ekov offers thermal waters at a very comfortable 31.9�C. There are also the well-preserved ruins of the Gothic castle St�ekov, which has a nice restaurant. This area inspired Richard Wagner to write his opera „Tannhauser“.
