Jesenky Mountains

Jesenky is a region of great natural beauty, culture and history, its more magnificent natural treasures being located in the Jesenky Natural Reserve. The summit of Pradd in the Hrub Jesenk Mountains is the highest peak in Moravia - 1492 m a.s.l. This attractive protected area has following points of interest: Velk kotlina (the Large Basin), with its glacial moraine and trekking path, Petrovy kameny (Peter’s Stones), the waterfalls of the Bl Opava river and the peat bog of Rejvz with its „moss lakes“ and path for travellers. The extinct volcano around Bruntl are considered to be geologically unique. The occurrence of limestone in the rock formed two following caves here - Na Pomez and Na piku. Because of the mountainous climate with its clean fresh air, spas have been created in this area which have proved to be helpful for people suffering from difficulties of breathing. These spas are Jesenk, Karlova Studnka and Bludov. In addition, this region is full of historical interest and notable for its infamous „witch trials“. But the varied countryside and comfortable climate make Jesenky an excellent place for recreation and tourism throughout the whole year. There are also numerous winter sport centres in this area.
