Krom - Hist. town reserve
Originally a market settlement on a crossroads of trading routes, Krom became a property of Olomouc bishops in the first quarter of the 12th century. The Slavic village was given the statute of a town in about 1260. The bishops build a prestige summer residence in Krom, and made it the seat of the diocese extensive property administration. In the medieval and early modern period, the town was damaged during the Hussite Wars and in the 17th century mainly by raids of the Swedes during the Thirty Years War. An important chapter in the town history is the year 1848, when the constitutional assembly of the Austrian Monarchy was transferred to Krom. Today, the population of the town and its peripheral areas amounts to almost 30 thousand, while women slightly outnumber men. In Krom, there are 4,100 houses with 11,000 flats, out of which 3,700 flats are in one-family houses.
