Slavkov is known for „The Battle of the Three Emperors“ on 02.12. 1805 in which Napoleon Bonaparte defeated the combined armies of the Russian Tsar and the Austrian Emperor. The Peace Memorial in honnour of 40,000 soldiers who lost their lives there was erected on the battlefield in 1911. The Baroque castle Slavkov (designed by D. Martinelli) includes a gallery of paintings from the 17th and 18th century collection of the Kounic family; the Chapel St. Cruise with frescoes by J. Pichler; a historical museum with a permanent exhibition of the Battle of Austerlitz and a castle garden with sculptures by G. Guiliani.
