Lednice
This medieval stronghold was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. The last Neo-Gothic reconstruction was carried out between 1846-1858, (but the Renaissance riding school 1688-1690 has designed by J.B. Fischer von Erlach) survived the Baroque style; it was the summer residence of the Lichtenstein family. Its interiors are outstanding for their richly-carved ceilings and furnishings, a beautiful spiral staircase hewn from a single tree trunk, as well as china and hunting trophies. Adjoining the castle is an enormous greenhouse (1843-5) with tropical vegetation, French garden, English park with rich ornamental follies, including a 60 metres high minaret built by J. Hardtmuth, the tallest outside Islam and the only one in the Czech Republic.
